Boquete Panama Gourmet Coffee

Who is Boquete Panama Coffee: Lee Zeltzer

My name is Lee Zeltzer, in 2006 I moved to Boquete Panama from Tucson Arizona. Some called it retirement, some career realignment, I call it a third life. I decided to leap off the treadmill of stressful work and try something new. I bought a small coffee farm in the Highlands of Panama in the District of Boquete.

Boquete is an island of recent immigrants to Panama, many are restless and need to keep themselves busy doing what they never had time to do before. In my past I drank coffee, I never dreamed of growing it. Now I grow coffee and sell it for friends and neighbors who find coffee is a great ground cover. None of us earn much, if anything from the sales, but they help offset costs and provide employment to local workers.

I write about Boquete Panama on a blog BoqueteGuide if you are interested in our community.

The coffee of Boquete Panama is world class excellent, winning awards every year. Yet few people know about Boquete Coffee because there is very little exported. Much of the Boquete Coffee that is exported goes to Japan because they pay more than North Americans for a cup of gourmet coffee.

Boquete Panama is known for growing some of the best Coffee in the world. For years I have been asked about selling Boquete Panama Coffee to the US and Canada. I have experimented with shipping coffee by Postal delivery and it takes ten days to two weeks for an order to arrive in the US or Canada unless there are holidays in Panama in which case add a week. In this culture a good party trumps work any day.

This is the only cost effective way of shipping small quantities of Boquete Panama coffee direct from Panama. These prices include postage, allow three weeks before panicing on delivery. For questions about Boquete Panama coffee email Coffee Help

Cafe Ferdabella

Boquete Panama Coffee

The story of Cafe Ferdabella is short. We purchased the finca in 2006, it had about one half a hectare of coffee plants, some very old. Working with local resources we eliminated the old plants and added about 1,200 geisha plants. Now years later we have a unique estate blend of Caturra, Bourbon and Geisha beans. Our coffee is fertilized organically, our insect control is done by a herd of chickens and our coffee is always handpicked in a cycle of 3-4 pickings as the cherries mature to red.

The cherries are then cleaned by the Ruiz family, dried and aged before being roasted in small custom batches of two kilos.

Our 2012 crop will be available starting in April 2013 and is limited to 100 pounds of roasted coffee. Sold whole beans only, in light, medium or dark roasts. This coffee is best when prepared in a French Press which provides much more flavor than any drip method.

Packaged in bags of 425 grams, whole beans for $15.95 delivered to the USA, $17.95 delivered certified mail to Canada.

Who is Boquete Panama Coffee – Richard & Dee Lipner

Cafe de la Luna Finca Dos Jefes

Finca dos Jefes is located in the highlands of Boquete, Panama and is proudly owned by Richard and Dee Lipner, formerly of Berkeley, California.

Richard and Dee purchased the El Salto farm in April of 2003. It had been abandoned as a working farm because of the low coffee prices during the 1990s. At that time, small farmers could not continue to farming and marketing to the global market.

Cafe de la Luna Finca Dos Jefes

Richard Roasting Coffee

The farm, originally planted in 1986, needed a great deal of work to bring it back to production quality. Once soil analysis was completed, appropriate and approved certified organic inputs were added to the soil. The fertilizer process started with guayanasa, chicken manure and various nutrients to strengthen and increase the growth of the coffee cherries.

The farm is planted in Caturra, Catuai, Criollo and Gesha trees which were trimmed and replanted where necessary. Farming is done is alliance with the lunar calendar and traditional, hand-picked harvesting is practiced.

The coffee cherries are dried with the skin and fruit intact on raised drying beds. The sun preserves the natural flavors of the coffee. The cherries are dried to 11% moisture content and then placed in reposada for a minimum of 3 months before they are peeled and ready for roasting.

Finca dos Jefes continues with the traditional, hand processing of the beans as they are peeled with this mortar and pestle. Finally, the green beans are ready for the perfect roast.

Finca Dos Jefes also has the best Coffee Tour in Boquete Panama, more information is on their website. BoqueteCoffeeTour

Cafe de Luna Organic Boquete Coffee from Dos Jefes

Boquete Coffee Cafe de la Luna

Finca Dos Jefes, is in the El Salto area of Boquete, Panama – a coffee growing region referred to as the Napa Valley of coffee. It’s rich volcanic soil and ideal climate produce some of the finest coffees in the world. We have set out to grow the healthiest, most natural, and most flavorful coffee on this planet. We received our organic certification in 2004.

Boquete Coffee Cafe de la Luna

Cafes de la Luna are farmed in alliance with the forces of the moon. During the waxing moon, when the force pulls upwards, we attend to the earth by selectively weeding and supplying the soil with organic nutrients. During the waning moon, when the earth inhales, we nurture the trees with careful pruning to foment growth during the next cycle of the increasing moon. We believe our return to this ancient farming practice produces the healthiest trees and the highest quality coffee under the moon. 400 Grams, 14 Oz, whole bean only, $16.95 a bag,$18.95 to Canada.
